Is "dividend growth" the same as "high yield"?

No — they sit on opposite ends of a payout spectrum. A high-yield payer (often 6 to 10%) distributes most of its earnings and grows slowly; a dividend grower (often 1 to 3% yield) raises the payout annually and grows earnings per share. The right pick depends on time horizon, not taste.

For a 30-year horizon, which mix should I prefer?

Dividend growers in retirement accounts — the compounding reinvest matters more than the current payout — with a measuring-stick high-yield sleeve only in tax-sheltered buckets to harvest the carry. The 10/20/30-year chart explains why the foregone yield matters less over longer windows.

When does high yield actually beat dividend growth?

When the horizon is short (under ~10 years), or when the holder actually needs the cash income now. Covered-call funds (JEPI, JEPQ) bridge the gap with monthly distributions on a dividend-growth-style underlying.
